Ric Wasserman came to Athens County as a college student in 1983. Though he left with his degree in 1987 he knew someday he’d return because this place gets under your skin. Ric has always been captivated by the beauty of this region, the progressive vibe of Athens and the never-ending kindness of the people.
Only 5 years later he came back to live permanently first taking a sales job then starting his own businesses. In almost 30 years Ric has owned all or part of a half-dozen businesses and employed over 1,000 people. He has made a habit of bringing people along, providing younger people with opportunities to improve their lives.
After serving the community through various non-profit boards and charitable organizations Ric was appointed, then elected as Athens County Treasurer in 2018. In all his 57 years there has never been an honor like serving the people every day. Ric has always been a believer in “Government done well” and his years in business have served him well in this endeavor, bringing efficiency and a customer service mentality to government service.
Ric lives in the country near Coolville on Athens County’s east end. He shares a home with his wife Signe who is a middle school teacher at Federal Hocking and their poodle, Izzy. When not working for the county you can usually find him on a tennis court or biking on one of our incredible bike paths.
